How to reach Sauris by auto.
Due to its delocalized position, the car is the preferred way to reach get to Alta Carnia. Sauris can be reached from the A23 Udine – Tarvisio motorway, Carnia Tolmezzo exit or from Cadore via the Mauria Pass that leads to Ampezzo. During the summer, it is also possible to reach Sauris from Vigo Laggio di Cadore or from Val Pesarina, through Casera Razzo. For those coming from Tolmezzo, there are news for summer 2022.

News from May 2022. Strada prov. 73 interrotta
Starting from 23rd May for approx. 2 months, the Lumiei road will be closed due to works in progress. This is the provincial road 73 that connects Ampezzo to Sauris. Which alternative? There is a detour, a scenic route that lengthens the road by just 10 minutes. When you reach Ampezzo, instead of taking the SP73 del Lumiei for Sauris, you need to continue the SS53 for a couple of kilometers and take Via San Valentino which leads in 10 minutes to Passo Pura and from there Sauris can be reached in about 15 minutes.
The closure of the prov. 73 of Lumiei is due to extraordinary works for a tunnel and a road surface. While the works are in progress, Sauris and the Lateis fraction where Hotel Riglarhaus is located, can only be reached via the Pura pass.
