Prestigious recognition for the village of Sauris, in the Carnic Alps, Italy – UNWTO 2022 candidate as the best tourism village in the world, together with the Isola del Giglio – Island of Giglio (Tuscany) and Otricoli (Umbria). The selection was sponsored by the italian Ministry of Tourism, after a careful assessment of compliance with the objectives required by the United Nations 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, promoted by the world organization Best Tourism Villages.

Launched in 2021, the Best Tourism Villages – World Tourism Organization promotes and enhances the precious role of tourism in the safeguarding and protection of rural villages considered in various aspects as a whole: landscapes, natural and cultural diversity, culture and local values, local activities and local eno-gastronomic products.
The important recognition of the United Nations identifies the rural villages that stand out as an example of sustainable tourist destination respectful of the territory and its people, which demonstrate a clear commitment to sustainability in all its aspects – economic, social and environmental – in development tourism as one of the drivers of rural development and community well-being. A great international acknowledgement for Sauris in Carnia – UNWTO 2022 candidate, for which we are grateful and proud.

It is a crucial moment for our Planet. Every day we are called to a renewed awareness of the impact of the actions of humans, today and towards future generations. The Planet asks us for respect and we can no longer afford not to listen to the alarming cry for attention, wherever we are. The small rural villages that over the years have experienced depopulation towards large urban centers, today have the opportunity to express new life. Thus, the noble mission of the World Tourism Organization in support of the world’s rural villages takes on an even more significant value today, so that exemplary sustainability projects such as Sauris, Italy can become virtuous experiences to be shared.

In Sauris, in Carnia, we have a simple recipe that guides our daily life, simplicity. We at the Hotel Riglarhaus have always applied it to small things: the relationship between people, respect for local products, the support of local craft activities, the culture of our traditions and our language – the Sauran and our traditional cuisine.
We love to get in touch with mother-earth, season after season, collecting what the earth offers like our dandelion honey, directly from the meadows at our breakfast tables, or in the knowledge and use of wild herbs in the kitchen. We love to promote silence and contemplation of the surrounding space also thanks to holistic activities that choose Sauris for its special energy. Above all, we love to welcome you and allow you to rediscover the regenerating dimension of contact with nature and with simple things.
